Becky Starmer

"Living a Fearless Life"

Every day the news is filled with social unrest, disease, death and destruction.  It is no longer things that are happening in other parts of the world - it's down the street, next door or even in our own home.  How do we live a fearless, hopeful, faith filled life in a world that seems hopeless?  Come join us this Thursday as Becky shares with us what she has learned and continures to learn about living a fearless life.  Join us for a message that is sure to encourage your heart.

Based on the foundational truths found in Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” And the 23rd Psalm.

About the Speaker

Becky Starmer is a life long Des Moines native who grew up on the north side of town.  Her father owned a construction company but was also the associate pastor at the small Assembly of God Church the family attended.  After high school she joined the Air Force as a vocalist and spent 4 years at Offutt AFB.  "Join the Air Force and see the mid-west", is her motto.  After the Air Force she returned to Des Moines and joined the Iowa Air National Guard where she worked as a substance abuse counselor as well as an advocate for sexual assault/harassment and investigator for discrimination complaints.  While serving in the guard she attended DMACC and study substance abuse counseling and social work.  She then transferred to Grand View College where she received her degree in secondary education, certified in speech, theatre and psychology.  She also has 3 Community College of the Air Force Associates Degrees in Information Management, Human Services and Human Resource Management and is a graduate of the Senior Non Commissioned Officer Academy and The First Sergeant Academy.  She has worked as a choir/drama director at Fort Des Moines Open Bible and Director of Christian Eduacation at Park Ave Presbyterian.  She was employed with the Drama departments at Lincoln and Roosevelt High Schools.  In 2004 she went from being a drill status guardsmen (weekend warrior) to work full time for the 132d Wing.  She currently is the Branch Chief for the communications flight plans and resources branch.  In addition to her job she continues to volunteer as an advocate for victims of sexual assault in the military.  She also volunteers time with the base chaplain's corps.  She has worked with the Adam C Medina Foundation since it's start in 2005.

She and Russ, her husband of 24 years, live on the southside of Des Moines.  They have a blended family of 4 children, 2 boys and 2 girls, 1 son-in-law, 1 daughter-in-law, 2 grandchildren (one of each) and their beloved chocolate lab Riley.  Two of her favorite scriptures are Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, and all are called according to his purpose.  And Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
